You took so many things from me. And now I'm going to return the favor.
―Ash

Ash Graven is a major character in Final Space.

Ash is an extremely powerful Serepentian whose powers first emerged after she was forced to watch the snake god Werthrent devour her sister, Harp Graven, during a sacrificial ceremony. In a fit of despair and rage, Ash's powers were activated in a powerful energy blast, which inadvertently killed her parents. Following the traumatic experience, Ash ran away from her home, where she met her new family, her adoptive brother Fox, and her adoptive father Clarence, before joining the Team Squad soon after.

After going into Final Space with the rest of the Team Squad, Ash was slowly corrupted by the malevolent cosmic entity Invictus, and its manipulation tactics caused her to descend into madness and vengeance, resulting in her tragically betraying the Team Squad and aiding Invictus in its ultimate escape.

Biography[]

Pre-series[]

Ash originated from the planet Serepentis, to which she was going to be sacrificed to a snake-like god named Werthrent along with her sister. She only found this out once her biological father told her. Watching her sister getting eaten by Werthrent, with no way to stop it, triggered something inside of her, which was her power. After blowing an attack at her parents, killing them, she made a run for it, to which Fox spots her, stopping the repair of Clarence's ship. Clarence gets mad until he spots Ash running toward them, and probably witnessed the attack. Somewhere along the line, she gets adopted by Clarence and starts her new life with her new family. Sadly, she was never truly able to get over the trauma, and it probably is the cause of her personality.

Season 2[]

In "The Toro Regatta", Clarence introduces Ash and Fox to Gary, Little Cato and H.U.E. after finding them in a space dump, although after winning the race of Toro Regatta, everyone decides to leave in Clarence's ship, the Crimson Light, in search of the Dimensional Keys.

In "The Grand Surrender", the Crimson Light's crew realizes that the second Dimensional Key was at Ash's homeworld after H.U.E. took note of her tattoo. Despite feeling intimidated by the thought of returning to Serepentis, Ash relents upon realizing that she could get her sister back. Ash confronts Werthrent and demands that he free her sister. Werthrent instead eats her and the rest of the Crimson Light, revealing the truth about the horrible destiny of those who sacrifice to the snake. Realizing that Werthrent's heart was the Dimensional Key, they removed it and the pocket dimension began to fall apart. Before they escaped, Ash reunites with her sister only to realize that she had long lost her mind, becoming a mindless zombie enslaved to Werthrent. Acknowledging that her sister was long gone, Ash escapes the pocket dimension with Little Cato, and Werthrent is killed. After regretting what happened, Nightfall tells her that maybe she did not obtain her powers to save her sister, but rather something much greater in the future and that she will be incredible when she does.

Later on in the series, after nobody gave praise to Clarence, he called Ash and Fox ungrateful and disowned them. After Clarence betraying everyone and stealing the Dimensional Keys they had, Fox finds him and tries to reason with him, just to make Clarence leave Fox to die. Fox nevertheless manages to use his last forces to alert his sister, who returns and puts him in recovery. However, given the lack of materials to save him, KVN decides to sacrifice his tritanium falanger to save Fox's life. Ash ends up disappointed to discover that his father betrayed them and very grateful to KVN.

As the crew reaches Inner Space in order to free Bolo, an Avocato possessed by Invictus takes on the entire crew of the Crimson Light (including Ash). As Avocato begins to strangle his son, Ash, with inspiration from the very recent sacrifice of Nightfall, uses her powers in a massive blast that forces Invictus out of Avocato's body, finally freeing him. She later goes along the rest of the crew into Final Space.

Season 3[]

In "One of Us" the Lord Commander tried to convince Ash that she and Invictus are one and the same but didn't believe him, but when Ash saw her brother get possessed by Invictus, and had no choice but to Leave him behind, her doubt started to slowly return, in "All The Moments Lost" she still feels grief over her brother, and felt tainted because her powers come from Invictus and uncertain that she wants to use them ever again, the black hole they stumbled across led to Invictus and she could hear him, and tells Ash to come to him, when Quinn tried to jump into a black hole cause of final space poisoning, she saved her by using her powers, as she did so she went into the black hole to Invictus seeking answers from him.

In "Change is Gonna Come" Invictus tried to manipulate her into joining it, deceiving her into thinking that Gary will eventually kill Fox, as a "reward" he gives her more of his power, hereby ageing her into an adult Serepentian and giving her a second eye. He gives her 3 days to choose a side: to follow Gary into doom, or join Invictus and destroy the universe, and sends her back to the Team Squad.

AshGraven-Profile

Ash's loyalty to the Team Squad quickly fell after Fox's death.

In "The Chamber of Doubt" when they entered Bolo's mind to try and free him from a wound which causes him to go "coo coo crazy" as they did so Ash got separated from the crew by being ripped out by an apparition of Invictus, the imposter Bolo takes her to a place called the chamber of doubt, and says she has to help regain sanity but it was a trick to manipulate her into joining her, and to do so Invictus used Fox, her brother to do so, to make sure it was really him she made him tell the story of his past that only Fox told her, having access to all Fox's memories Invictus tells his sad sad tale of woe, he uses it as an advantage to manipulate Ash, when the real Bolo told the crew Invictus was trying to deceive her and almost succeeded, they rushed to the scene, Gary was the only one who came after him, he pushes Ash away from the possessed Fox and engage in a roughhousing event, but Gary didn't realize he is giving him exactly what he wants on a silver platter, the possessed puppet used his energy in Gary's new arm to switch the blade function on and stabbed Fox not knowing it was Invictus who really killed him she blamed Gary, when they got out of Bolo's mind she demanded her brother's body and he gave it to her she got off the ship and hugged his corpse and cried.

In "Forgiveness", Ash is seen attending Fox's funeral, until she lashes out at Gary and the Team Squad, still believing that Gary had murdered Fox. Ash leaves the Galaxy Two to get away from the Team Squad, where she encounters a mystical, shapeshifting being. Ash questions the entity on what they want, to which the entity says that they want to "mess stuff up", and invites Ash to join them. Ash eagerly accepts their offer, and the two proceed to destroy various things such as asteroids, causing a friendship to spark between the two. The entity then asks Ash if she wants to see the Hidden Lights, their favorite spot in Final Space. Ash accepts the invitation as long as they can destroy things on the way there. They arrive to see the Hidden Lights, and Ash is entranced by their beauty. While bonding with the entity, Ash tells them her name, and the entity names themselves "Evra". In order to find a form that Ash is the most comfortable with, Evra begins taking various shapes. Ash whispers something to Evra which causes them to take on a feminine humanoid form, which causes Ash to start blushing. Evra and Ash then hold hands as they watch the Hidden Lights together. Mooncake then floats by the two while parading Fox's casket, and snuggles Ash after seeing her with Evra. Deciding to head back to the Galaxy Two, Ash asks Evra if they will meet again, to which Evra replies that they don't do times and places, but it's possible. Ash then returns to the Galaxy Two, where Gary apologizes to her for killing Fox. Although Ash doesn't forgive Gary yet, the two begin to repair their relationship when Ash begins sharing stories about Fox to Gary.

In "Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge Rising", Ash accompanies the crew on their way to Earth to activate the Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge. When it is revealed that they need someone on the other side of Final Space to activate the bridge, Ash suggests that they have her adoptive father Clarence activate the bridge. Although the crew initially reject Ash's idea, Ash convinces them to give Clarence a chance, and says that he's the only person they know on the other side of Final Space. Ash then contacts her father and informs her father of Fox's death, which brings Clarence to tears. Ash then told him that he could help her and the team by activating the Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge on Kalden 1. Clarence promises to activate the bridge for Ash. When Gary expresses doubt that Clarence will activate the bridge, Ash comforts him by saying that she knows Clarence will do it. When Clarence actually does manage to activate the bridge (at the cost of his life, unbeknownst to Ash), Ash cries tears of joy at her father's heroic act. Ash stays behind on Earth with the Team Squad when they decided to activate the KVN Net to fight back against Invictus and the Titans.

In "Until the Sky Falls", Ash and Mooncake accompany Kevin Van Newton in his lab as the latter monitors the KVN Net. When Avocato fires a large bomb on the Lord Commander's ship which is heading towards Earth's core, Kevin Van Newton tells Ash and Mooncake to get out of Earth while they still can. Concerned for Kevin's safety, Ash asks what he will do, and Kevin says that he is staying behind on Earth. Ash reluctantly leaves Kevin in his lab, escaping from Earth with Mooncake just as it explodes. Ash then watched the activation of the KVN Net, only for it to be destroyed along with Earth when the Lord Commander becomes a Titan.

In "The Dead Speak", Ash and the entire Team Squad are devastated when Bolo is killed by the Lord Commander. Later, Sheryl approaches Ash, who is staring out the window, concerned for her. Ash expresses that she is beginning to lose hope and is starting to doubt the Team Squad, questioning which side is the right one. Just then, an army of Zombie Garys attack the Galaxy Two, and Invictus nearly takes possession of Ash, although Sheryl is able to save her from the Zombie Garys and Invictus' influence. While fighting off the Zombie Garys, Ash catches one of the zombies and suspends them in the air. Gary orders Ash to kill it, but Little Cato suggests that Ash instead use her powers to release it from Invictus' control. Ash does so, and the released Gary reveals his horrific backstory to the Team Squad. Later, when Quinn tells the Team Squad that they are escaping Final Space, Ash expresses disdain towards Quinn's decision as Nightfall would have stayed and fought back.

In "The Leaving", Ash and the Team Squad locate the Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge and go on a mission to reactivate it. During the mission, Ash apologizes to Quinn for her behavior towards her. However, when the bridge is seemingly about to be activate, it overcharges and shuts down, leaving the entire Team Squad devastated, and Ash expresses disappointment in Quinn before leaving the room. A few minutes later, Ash eavesdrops on a conversation between Gary and Avocato, and learns about Avocato's dark secret of having murdered Little Cato's biological parents. Enraged at this news, Ash attacks Avocato, forcing him to fully admit the truth to her. Fully convinced that she was on the wrong side and Invictus was right all along, Ash calls the Team Squad "evil", and says that she is taking Little Cato away from them. Avocato threatens to kill Ash if she does, to which Ash responds by attempting to kill Gary and Avocato by hurling them out of the Galaxy Two. Ash then meets back up with Little Cato, saying that they must leave the ship. When Little Cato expresses confusion as to what is happening, Ash tells him that Avocato murdered his birth parents, although Little Cato does not fully believe her. Viewing Little Cato as the only member of the Team Squad that cared about her at that time, Ash takes Little Cato from the Galaxy Two, leaving with him to go to Invictus.

In "The Devil's Den", Ash and Little Cato arrive to Invictus' Prison, and Invictus greets them upon their arrival. Ash tells Invictus that it was right all along, and pledges her allegiance to it. When Little Cato requests Ash to bring him back to the Galaxy Two, Ash lashes out at him, saying that the Team Squad destroy everything in their path, before saying that she and Little Cato can be a family without them. When Gary and Avocato arrive to rescue their son, Ash forces Avocato into revealing her secret to Little Cato, before attempting to kill Avocato and Gary, although the two are saved by H.U.E. using an upgraded mech suit given to him by Biskit. Soon after, the Lord Commander enters Invictus' Prison with the intent to kill Invictus. Ash, desiring revenge for the Lord Commander breaking her hands, returns the favor by crippling the Lord Commander's right hand, and defeats him effortlessly with a single bolt of energy. While Ash is distracted, Gary, Avocato, and H.U.E. escape with Little Cato, and return to the Galaxy Two to escape using the repaired Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge. Ash pursues the team and prevents them from escaping, causing Mooncake to charge ahead and attack Ash. However, Ash overpowers Mooncake, grabbing onto him. Deciding to take revenge on Gary for "killing" Fox, Ash hurts Mooncake by draining him of his power while Gary watches helplessly, and then transfers Mooncake's power to Invictus, allowing the cosmic entity to break free of its prison. As Invictus escapes Final Space by violently crushing its walls, Ash is last seen laughing maniacally as she is caught in the ensuing explosion with Mooncake, leaving both of their fates unknown.

Personality[]

Ash is rather odd and creepy and can come off as standoffish and possessive at times. Despite this, she has a warm side she shows it mostly to Fox, Little Cato, and she shows it to the rest of the crew at a few points. When she is using her powers, she often loses herself in motivating anger and can get rather trigger happy. In Season 3, Ash is notably much more mature and less prone to comical violent outbursts or strange ramblings than in Season 2, showing that the trauma she has faced while in Final Space has changed her greatly.

Appearance[]

Throughout Season 2 and the first half of Season 3, Ash's appearance is that of a slim, light blue-skinned young Serepentian in her mid-teens, with both long fuchsia hair that covers up the right part of her face, and a single fuchsia eye with the sclera being colored in a very light yellow. She also has a tattoo of one of the dimensional keys on her left arm.

Her original attire consists of a magenta choker and a violet amulet with a pentagon-shaped, magenta gem around her neck, and a fitted black long-sleeved top with matching-colored fingerless gloves, with her left sleeve having a single magenta stripe and her right sleeve being adorned with a cerise-pink snake armband, which is around her upper right arm.

Her plate, gauntlets and skirt are the same gray color - with her plate having vertical violet lines on it, her gauntlets having dark purple screens on them, and her skirt having a simple violet snakehead on the front, and it is also worn over a set of cerise-pink and black leggings. For footwear, she wore dark gray boots with attached knee-pads on the front, the same color as her amulet, lines on her plate, and snakehead on her skirt.

From "Change is Gonna Come" onward, Ash's appearance is drastically altered by Invictus, sporting an appearance which give the implication that she is now in her late-teens, as she appeared taller than before. In her new appearance, she received an additional eye and her hair has become shoulder-length, which is shaved into a mohawk with an undercut. From "The Devil's Den" onward, her eyes glow a bright pink color, symbolizing her newfound loyalty to Invictus.

In addition to her clothing, it sported a much darker color scheme - she now wears a long-sleeved, tight-fitting, dark gray high-collared bodysuit with a black design on the legs, with her left sleeve having a single violet stripe, and the snake armband on her right sleeve is now colored in a slightly brighter shade of pink. Her plate, skirt and boots are now black - with her plate now having vertical cerise-pink lines on it, and the snakehead on her skirt and the knee-pads on her boots are now a plum-purple color.

In addition, her gloves and gauntlets are now two shades of pink - her gloves being a cerise-pink color, while her gauntlets are a magenta color.

Powers and Abilities[]

Ash has been shown to have Dark Energy-like powers that give her Pyrokinesis, Levitation, and Telekinesis. When her powers are active, she is surrounded by a purple aura and the white of her eye turns black. Ash's powers are triggered by feeling intense emotions, and as a result, she does not have full control over her abilities and usually needs to be triggered by something (such as thoughts about going to prom with her old crush, Jordan Hammerstein) in order to use them. In "The Grand Surrender", the origin of her powers are revealed. She gained them after watching her sister Harp get eaten by their home planet's snake god. She used her powers to escape but accidentally killed her parents in the process. It is also revealed in "One of Us" that Ash's powers were bestowed upon her by Invictus, although it is still unknown in what way Invictus did this. In "Change is Gonna Come", Invictus changes Ash's appearance and gives her full control of her powers as part of his plan to coerce her into joining him and decimating the universe.

Relationships[]

Little Cato - Former Friend[]

Ash acts slightly possessive of Little Cato and initially treated him more as a pet than a person, but she eventually grew out of this and does act nice to him a lot of the time. As for Little Cato, although he is weirded out by her sometimes, and sometimes scared, he is shown to care about her, as any friend would.

Following Fox's death, Ash grew closer and more protective of Little Cato, seemingly viewing him as the only brother she had left since Fox was gone. In "The Leaving", Ash kidnaps Little Cato, despite his protests, and takes him to Invictus in an act of protection after discovering Avocato had murdered his biological parents, promising to keep him safe. Before taking him, Ash told Little Cato that he was the only person in the Team Squad at that time who cared about her and that Avocato didn't deserve to have him as a son.

Gary - Former friend; Hated Enemy[]

Throughout most of Season 2, Ash mostly acts indifferent about Gary, at first, bickering a lot with him, but over time, she has warmed up to him, and even lavished praise upon him during the Team Squad's Carnivolo dinner, calling him "Warmhearted". Gary eventually grew to like Ash in return, commonly encouraging her to be a better version of herself.

In Season 3, Gary and Ash's friendship was damaged greatly when Gary made the decision to leave Fox behind so that the rest of Team Squad could escape from Lord Commander and Invictus, resulting in Fox's soul being consumed by Invictus. Later, when Gary told Ash that they barely survived even after Fox was left behind, Ash snapped at him for calling them a "team", and yet still making the decision to leave Fox behind.

This all comes to a head when she witnesses Gary kill Fox, not knowing that his arm was possessed by Invictus. Thinking Gary is to blame for Fox's death, Ash nearly kills him, although Bolo steps in and stops her before she can do anything. At Fox's funeral, Ash lashed out at Gary several times, still thinking he was to blame for Fox's death, and leaves the crew to spend some time alone. After meeting Evra, Ash heads back to the ship in brighter sprits. There, Gary apologizes to her for killing Fox, and while she doesn't forgive Gary just yet, she does start to share more stories about Fox to Gary, indicating that their friendship is starting to rebuild. Following this, Ash was seemingly back on good terms with Gary and shows no animosity towards him, even when he insults her adoptive father, Clarence (although Gary does have a solid reason to not trust Clarence).

All of that is thrown away like this week's trash, however, when she finds out that Avocato killed Little Cato's parents and that Gary was aware of this but still never informed Little Cato. She attacks Gary, continues to blame him for Fox's death, and then attempts to kill him and Avocato by hurling them out of the Galaxy Two. She then kidnaps Little Cato, and brings him to Invictus' Prison. Later, Ash attacked and harmed Mooncake by absorbing his powers as Gary watched helplessly, purely to emotionally hurt him as revenge for Gary "killing" Fox.

Clarence - Adoptive Father[]

Clarence was Ash's adoptive father. Ash was shown to be very obedient to Clarence's commands, although she was shown to get uncomfortable with his jokes and perverted tendencies. In "The Set Up", Clarence lashed out at Fox and Ash, and disowned them for not lavishing any praise on her during the Carnivolo dinner. Shortly afterward, Clarence betrayed the Team Squad and mortally wounded Fox, with his betrayal greatly devastating Ash as she genuinely trusted him as her father. Ash disowned Clarence mentally, not wanting anything to do with him.

However, in "Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge Rising", Ash offers Clarence up as the one who can activate the Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge. Although the other crew members attempt to shoot her idea down due to their disdain for Clarence, Ash convinces them to give Clarence one last chance to redeem himself, showing that she still has faith in her father even after he betrayed her and the Team Squad, and she even admitted that she still saw him as her father. Ash also believed that he deserved to learn about Fox's death. When Ash contacted Clarence, she informed him of Fox's death, much to his dismay, as well as the Team Squad's situation, and he promised to activate the bridge for her. When Clarence was successful in activating the bridge at the cost of his life (unbeknownst to Ash), Ash was ecstatic and even shed tears at her father's heroic act.

Fox - Adoptive Older Brother[]

Of anyone she has interacted with, Ash was shown to be easily the closest with her adoptive older brother, Fox. Fox was usually very supportive of his younger sibling, such as when he wished her luck when she went to Serepentis, and he was shown to be very protective of her, getting very defensive when het mentions they were adopted, as well as threatening to kill Little Cato if he let anything bad happen to Ash in "The Descent Into Darkness". When Fox was left for dead by Clarence, Ash immediately abandoned Gary, Nightfall, and Little Cato to come to his aid. In addition, Fox was the only person who Ash allows to refer to her with the nickname "Ashy", whereas not even Little Cato, a very close friend of Ash, is allowed to call her that, further showcasing how close Ash was with her brother. In "The Chamber of Doubt", it is implied that Ash cried the first time Fox told her about his backstory.

In "One of Us", Ash was devastated when Fox was left behind by the Team Squad, resulting in his soul being devoured by Invictus, and beforehand demanded that Fox not be left behind. In "Change is Gonna Come", Ash was willing to confront Invictus itself within its prison in order to get Fox back, and expressed horror and disbelief when Invictus told her that Gary would kill Fox. Ash was absolutely devastated when Fox was killed by Invictus, and his death drove a wedge between her and the Team Squad as she believed that Gary was responsible for her brother's death. However, after meeting Evra, Ash seemingly came to terms with her brother's death, admitting that he was now at peace.

However, Ash still held strong feelings of resentment. While Gary attempted to fix his relationship with Ash, she later comes to the conclusion that he really meant to after finding out Avocato's murder of Little Cato's parents. She later joins Invictus because of the trauma of losing Fox.

Nightfall - Possible mother figure[]

Although acting snappy with her a couple of times, Nightfall acts rather motherly around Ash, and while Ash originally rejected her advances in "The Grand Surrender", it is hinted she eventually comes around to her. After Nightfall sacrifices herself, Ash recalls the time she told her she would be good for something in the future. This causes Ash to go into a frenzy of power, freeing Avocato from his possession. Even after Nightfall's death, Ash still remained fiercely loyal to her fallen mother figure, verbally attacking Quinn multiple times by comparing her to Nightfall, such as when she accused Quinn of being a coward when she wanted to leave Final Space, saying that Nightfall would have stayed and fought back against the Titans.

Mooncake - Former Friend[]

Initially, Mooncake and Ash had sporadic, but positive interactions. Mooncake is shown to be very friendly towards Ash, such as when he cuddled her to comfort her over her backstory, and when he cuddled and kissed her when seeing her again after Ash left the Galaxy Two following Fox's death.

However, Ash's friendship with Mooncake was shattered in "The Devil's Den", when Ash tortured Mooncake purely to hurt Gary, before using his power to free Invictus from its prison.

Harp - Younger Sister[]

Harp is Ash's biological sister; Ash is shown to care for Harp very much she wanted to save Harp even though Harp was mentally incapacitated beyond repair. This affected her relationship with her adoptive brother, not wanting to lose another sibling of hers. She was deeply shattered at his death, reminded of how both of her siblings perished.

KVN - Former Friend[]

Ash never really showed a reaction other than some minor annoyance, until he sacrificed his insanity chip to save Fox, Ash gave him a big hug and is shown to feel extremely grateful. Instances afterwards seem to show a relationship of neutrality towards KVN. However, past season 2, she turns against her former friends, KVN included.

Avocato - Former Friend; Enemy[]

Originally freeing him from Invictus's grasp, Ash and Avocato grew friendly with one another after Season 2. Being a part of Avocato's group, Ash and Avocato collaborate and cooperate multiple times, like putting the trapped robot out of his misery, and fighting off hoards of zombies. Even when Avocato's crew was captured by Lord Commander and Avocato's past was forcibly revealed, she stated for him not to feel guilty, as he was manipulated. He responds with how he still was the one that killed them, manipulated or not.

When Ash discovered that Avocato murdered Little Cato's biological parents while eavesdropping on a conversation between him and Gary, she suffered a breakdown and immediately tried to kill both him and Gary by hurling them out of the Galaxy Two. She then takes Little Cato from him, believing that Avocato doesn't deserve Little Cato as a son. Prior, Avocato had just threatened her with death if she tried such a stunt.

Quinn Ergon - Former Friend; Enemy[]

Not much is known about Quinn and Ash's relationship, but it is implied that they are friendly with one another, as Ash expressed concern upon learning about the Final Space disease and how it was affecting Quinn. Despite the fear of using her powers after learning they came from Invictus, Ash uses them to save Quinn when she nearly fell into the black hole. In The Dead Speaks, Ash starts to show resentment towards Quinn for being too different from Nightfall.

After the Hyper-Transdimensional Bridge overcharges and goes offline, Ash immediately loses all respect for her. Quinn later prepares to fire at Ash along with Sheryl to prevent Little Cato's abduction, but she gets pinned down and Ash escapes with her.

Invictus - Master[]

Ash initially feared and hated Invictus as much as the rest of the Team Squad. In "One of Us", Invictus revealed that it was responsible for giving Ash her powers for an unknown purpose. When Ash confronts Invictus inside a black hole, angered over Fox's imprisonment, they give her full control over her powers and offers her a choice: Stay with Gary or join it in destroying the universe. In "The Chamber of Doubt", Invictus remains adamant about turning Ash to their side and uses Fox's body to sway her into doing so, going as far as having Fox killed by Gary to prove its own point. Nevertheless, Ash seemingly forgives Gary for Fox's death and remained loyal to Team Squad.

However, when Ash finds out that Avocato murdered Little Cato's parents, she attacks him and Gary, yelling that Invictus was right about the Team Squad being killers and liars. When she confronts Little Cato on the matter, she says that Invictus was where she truly belonged, and she left to go join her new master, taking Little Cato with her. Ash remains loyal to Invictus to the very end where she frees it from its prison seemingly at the cost of her own life.

Evra - Friend and Crush[]

Ash first encounters Evra while flying through Final Space, still angry over Fox's death. Evra quickly befriends Ash after inviting her to destroy things with them, and the two take their anger out on several asteroids and a moon. Evra then brings Ash to their favorite spot in Final Space, known as the Hidden Lights. There, they continue to bond, and Evra helps Ash cope with Fox's passing. Ash in turn warms up to Evra's playfulness and even begins to develop feelings for them when the latter takes on a humanoid form to comfort her.

Sheryl Goodspeed - Former Friend; Enemy[]

Ash first met Sheryl in the episode "The Notorious Mrs. Goodspeed". Initially, She seemed to trust Sheryl enough to ask the latter to give her a "new" makeover. This changed, however, when Sheryl showed her true colors after she left the Crimson Light in the same episode, and when she asked Clarence to betray the team squad and steal their Dimensional Keys for her in the episode "The Set Up". Ash even told Gary that his mom is worse than hers, despite the fact that her mom tried to sacrifice her own daughter to Werthrent.

Their relationship improves in Season 3 as Sheryl starts to act more motherly towards Ash. In the episode "The Dead Speak", she shows genuine concern for the teen's wellbeing and even asks the Serepentian if she was alright. It is also seen that Sheryl empathizes with Ash to an extent. When the Zombie Gary's killed the ships power, Sheryl didn't hesitate to go back and check on Ash. She even saved the girl from Invictus, resulting in her getting injured.

But their relationship gets destroyed in the next episode, "The Leaving". After Avocato and Gary warn Quinn about Ash's outburst Sheryl arms herself with a gun after throwing one to Quinn. The two of them make their way to Ash and Little Cato after which they threaten Ash by pointing their guns at her. Ash easily disarms the two with her powers and bends the guns to restrain them. Sheryl tries her best to convince Little Cato to not listen to Ash and this results in the Serepentian crushing Sheryl even more with her powers.

  • She is voiced by Ashly Burch, best known for her roles as Chloe Price from the video game Life is Strange and as Aloy in the video game Horizon Zero Dawn.
    • According to FX supervisor Ryan Adams, Ash was originally going to be voiced by Kate Micucci, but she was recasted in favor of Ashly Burch.
  • She likes Little Cato and is a little obsessed with him.
    • In "The Toro Regatta", she admits it by accident.
    • In "The Happy Place", she made him jump with her and say she likes his fur.
    • She is hinted to have a doll made of Little Cato's hair.
    • Despite this, Olan Rogers has confirmed that Little Cato and Ash will never be in any romantic relationship, as they are meant to be seen as family.[2]
  • It is strongly implied that Ash is bisexual. She mentions having a crush on a young man named Jordan Hammerstein, but later she develops a close relationship with Evra that's laden with romantic undertones. While Evra is a genderless being, when asked what form Ash wants them to take, they take on a distinctly female form which Ash grows attached to (although, it should be noted that Ash had already shown signs of affection towards Evra even before they took on a female form).
  • Ash had a birth defect where she only has one eye which is her left eye, until "Change is Gonna Come" where Invictus gave her two eyes.
  • Her name means "sculpted ash".
  • It is mentioned in "The Arachnitects" that Ash had a very bad experience at prom, to the extent that the very mention of anything prom related is enough to trigger her powers.
  • In "The Descent Into Darkness", it is revealed that Ash does not like being called "Ashy", although she does allow Fox to call her that.
  • In "The Lost Spy", Ash mentions that she has a collection of spleens, and said that if Gary had died she would have taken his heart.
  • In the Final Thoughts for "The Grand Surrender", Anne Farrell, the writer of the episode, claimed that Ash was 16-17 years old.[3] However, in a Discord AMA, series creator Olan Rogers later said that Ash was in her late teens, putting Ash's age around 18 or 19 years. During the same AMA, Coty Galloway jokingly said that Ash was a million years old.[4]
