- “Forget it, Quinn! I'm not a baby. You can't protect me anymore.”
- ―Avery
Avery Ergon is a minor character in Final Space. She was the younger sister of Quinn Ergon, and a soldier in the Infinity Guard who presumably died in battle while attempting to prove herself to Quinn.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Avery Ergon was the younger sister of Quinn Ergon. Growing up, Avery secretly admired and looked up to her older sister. This resulted in her acting very competitive, brash, and overconfident towards Quinn, always wanting to outclass her sister and the only person Avery seemed to show respect for was her mother.
In one event, Quinn and Avery were playing a "game" where one had to catch a beacon underwater in the middle of the ocean faster than the other. After Quinn failed to catch the beacon in time, Avery taunted her sister over this, before throwing her own beacon in the ocean with the intention of catching it and beating Quinn. Quinn urgently told Avery to not attempt it, as a storm had rolled in. Avery ignored her sister and jumped in after the beacon anyway. Due to the storm, Avery was swept away and nearly drowned as a result, but was rescued by the Infinity Guard and taken to a medical center.
After Quinn was summoned to the morgue, Avery was already there with a blanket wrapped around herself and glaring at her older sister despite Quinn showing relief that she was alive and well. She ignored her sister until Commander Ergon arrived and Avery stood firm like a soldier and watched as their mother locked Quinn in a room full of dead bodies of Infinity Guard soldiers and scolded her, telling her not to let Avery or anyone under her command to suffer the same fate as these soldiers (even though it was Avery who risked her own life and despite Quinn's protests that it was too dangerous).
Disappearance[]
Many years later, Avery was fighting on the side of the Infinity Guard after being ambushed by an unseen enemy force, with Quinn acting as the squad's commander. Tired of sitting back and taking orders, Avery, against the protests of her sister, stepped up to the front lines in an attempt to end the conflict once and for all. Despite Quinn's desperate pleas, Avery flew headfirst into an explosion, and was never seen again. As no body was recovered, Avery was presumed deceased, leaving Quinn riddled with guilt.
Personality[]
Avery was shown to be overconfident, competitive, and rather foolish, in contrast to her sister. She was impulsive and arrogant in her attempt to prove herself as superior to Quinn, even almost drowning while chasing a beacon despite Quinn's protests, ignoring and even mocking Quinn's orders during combat, and running off to the frontlines and seemingly dying in an ensuing explosion. It was implied by a medical AI that Avery's actions were due to the fact she greatly looked up to Quinn, rather than actually being jealous of her.
Trivia[]
- Olan Rogers and Ben Bjelajac have expressed interest in exploring Avery more in the future, implying that she could still be alive.
- Despite being the younger sister, Avery always looked much older than her older sister Quinn.
